The heir’s room

Every Catalan family wanted a boy to be born soon, the first-born, the heir, the figure destined to perpetuate the family’s properties and activity. This inherited all the lands and the manor house, so as not to have to successively divide up the cultivated fields, making them increasingly smaller and unproductive. Once married, he and his wife occupied the room to the right of their parents in the main house.
